Types of Masters in the UK

Taught Masters

Usually one year. Modules include graduate-level taug-ht subjects and study research methodology
Eligibility Criteria:
  1. Bachelor’s degree (average grades usually 75+).
  2. Three-year technical college degree AND minimum two years’ work experience3. IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL 92+ (varies by institution – students with lower results can take pre-sessional English course).

Research Masters

Usually one to two years. Generally, research-based co-urses preface doctoral studies. They are mainly aimed at students who are interested in progressing to do a PhD.
Eligibility Criteria:
  1. Bachelor’s degree (average grades usually 75+) AND minimum 1-2 years’ work experience.

  2. IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL 92+ (varies by institution -students with lower results can take pre-sessional English course) .

Postgraduate Application Pathways

Pre-Masters

Course Introduction:

Between 3 months and a yearlong, this course is structured to aid international students transition smoothly from polytechnic colleges to research study. The programme is a combination of academic study relevant to the later field of study, English language training, and study skills. Top-up courses are for students who have completed a course at a technical college in one’s home country. The student can progress to a Master’s degree in the UK by completing the final year of a UK undergraduate course. This option is only available at certain institutes and for select courses.
